Understanding Displacement-Distance and Displacement-Time graphs of a Transverse wave

A transverse wave that you see, e.g. a water wave, can be represented on a displacement-distance(position) graph and a displacement-time graph.


The two physical quantities you can determine from the displacement-distance(position) graph are:

1) amplitude, and

2) wavelength


The two physical quantities you can determine from the displacement-time graph are:

1) amplitude, and

2) period


Displacement-distance graph actually represents the real transverse wave. It shows the particles at different position on the wave.


But displacement-time graph represents the position of one particular particle varies with time.
